“Sarah was just 11 years old when her father, the breadwinner of her family, passed away from COVID-19. In a single moment, her life changed. Her father’s small tailoring business had been the sole source of income for their family of five. Without him, her family plunged into poverty. Bills piled up, meals became scarce, and the dream of continuing her education felt impossible.

Sarah’s mother, a homemaker, tried everything to make ends meet. But with limited skills and no resources, she couldn’t earn enough to keep Sarah and her siblings in school. Soon, Sarah had to drop out and start working as a helper in the local market, carrying heavy loads for mere pennies a day. At such a young age, she faced a reality no child should endure: hunger, hopelessness, and the constant fear of what tomorrow would bring.

That’s when Beyond Self Foundation stepped in. We found Sarah through our outreach program and enrolled her in our Tailoring Program at Beyond Self Tailoring Hub, where she learned the same skills her father once used to provide for the family.

Today, Sarah is thriving. She’s not only excelling in her studies but has also started making small clothing items she sells to support her family. She dreams of becoming a professional fashion designer and opening a tailoring shop in honor of her father. Sarah’s story is one of resilience, but it’s also a reminder of how fragile life can be—and how, with the right support, even the darkest days can turn into a brighter future.
